Among the renowned Panch Kedar sites, Kalpeshwar is where Bhagwan Shiva’s matted locks had touched, when Bhim had tried to catch hold of the Bullformed Bhagwan. It was mentioned above. The braids of the locks are only various heights with various mythological interpretations which do rounds.
Another explanation is about the Mythological Time. It is believed, the word ‘Kalpeshwar’ should be defined as one who has conquered the barriers of Time (means ‘kalpa’ in Sanskrit) of all mythological eras – Satya, Treta, Dwapar and Kali Yuga. The site has to be approached through the Hlong heights of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is a steep trek amid waterfalls and desolate flat plateaus, into a mystic Nature.

From Gopeshwar to Helung, 48 kms by motorised vehicles. The route is Chamoli to Joshimath. It is a 9-km trekking from Helung or Joshimath.
